Flashlights FAQs
What is a flashlight?
A flashlight is a portable device that creates a direct beam of illumination
and usually doesn’t require an outside power source and instead
typically relies on battery power. Flashlights are great for emergency
situations and for use by outdoor enthusiasts like campers who need
illumination where otherwise none is available.
What are no battery flashlights?
No battery flashlights are lights that do not require the purchase or
use of separate batteries in order to provide illumination. The most
common source of power for no battery flashlights is through human interaction,
such as a manual hand-crank. Another type of no battery flashlight is
the shake flashlight, which gets its power by the user shaking the flashlight
vigorously. These kinds of flashlights are popular because they do not
require the purchase of batteries but they usually have less illumination
life than standard battery-powered flashlights.
Can flashlights be used for outdoor or underwater use?
Yes. There are many types of waterproof flashlights available that are
designed for outdoor and underwater use. Be sure to check the individual
labels for what type of use a particular flashlight is built for. Some
waterproof flashlights are built only for limited water exposure, making
them great for camping or other uses where they may become wet due to
weather. Other flashlights are made for total immersion in water.
